An energy of fresh enthusiasm has been building in Wincanton throughout the year, and there are moves afoot to channel it towards the development of the town’s centre and community. The Town Council is keen to involve everyone to capitalise on this important opportunity.

Following public consultation earlier in the year, at its meeting last week, South Somerset District Council’s Area East Committee approved amendments to the Wincanton Town Centre Strategy as a direct result of community concerns.
Wincanton Country Market Afternoon Tea in aid of Breast Cancer Care
In 2019, Wincanton Country Market celebrates trading in our town for 50 years. We shall be marking this milestone by hosting an Afternoon Tea in aid of Breast Cancer Care, on Friday 19th July. We'll be serving a wide range of our delicious homemade cakes and bakes.

The Church Street bottleneck has double yellows at last
Inconsiderate parking near the narrow pass at the bottom of Church Street has been a frustration, and often an outright obstruction to drivers of large vehicles for years. Finally, double yellow lines have been added to discourage future blockages.
The Wincanton Warriors U12s team is looking for new players
The Wincanton Warriors U12s team is currently looking for new players to add to the squad for the coming season. The team plays in the Yeovil & District Youth League, with matches on Sunday afternoons and training at Wincanton Sports Ground on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Wincanton marks the 75th anniversary of the crash of Old Faithful
A large number of townspeople turned out in Wincanton on 23rd June to mark the 75th anniversary of the crash of the American Flying Fortress bomber, Old Faithful, nearby. The sacrifices made that day have been remembered every year since a memorial was erected in 1954.
Myakka fills funding GAPS for local support group
The latest community group to benefit from the Myakka Grassroots Fund is Wincanton-based Guardian and Adoptive Parental Support (GAPS), to whom Myakka representatives recently presented a cheque for £2,500 at one of their Balsam Centre meetings.
