By the end of 2017 Wincanton will have a new veterinary practice. The Shaftesbury based Longmead Veterinary Practice has decided to expand, aiming to have their new facility open for business some time in November.

Cakes by Design - currently on display at Papertrees
Anyone who has been into Papertrees on the High Street in the past week will have noticed a spectacular pair of cakes – one that looks like a particularly fine geological sample and the other a mysterious tree from a fairy story. They are the work of Sarah Romain, whose father Adrian owns Papertrees.
What should we do about Christmas lighting in Wincanton?
Wincanton Town Council is hosting a public meeting in the Town Hall on Wednesday 17th May at 6:30pm to discuss what can be done about Christmas lighting for the town. The meeting is open to everyone in the community, including residents and business owners.

Wincanton Duck Race returns this year on Sunday 14th May
The annual Wincanton Duck Race makes a welcome return for 2017 following a year off. It takes up its position next to the River Cale and the new play area in Wincanton's Cale Park. The fun begins at 1pm and will finish at 4pm. Come along for a family day out. The weather looks favourable, even for ducks!
Hauser & Wirth and Where West Begins celebrate silent cinema
Beginning Friday 12th May, Hauser & Wirth in Bruton is host to a three-day festival of film screenings, live music, talks and more. The weekend also includes events organised by Where West Begins, South Somerset’s new film programme, which shows films, with talks, workshops and other activities, in venues including Wincanton Town Hall.

Residents gather to voice concern over revised Windmill Hill development plan [UPDATED]
Residents of Bayford and Penn View are opposing new plans to develop farmland off Bayford Hill. They voiced their concerns at a meeting in Bayford on Friday 6th May. Public consultation closes on 15th May and South Somerset planners are expected to consider the application in July.
Local dog trainers are taking on Muddy Dog Challenge 2017
Some local dogs and their trainers from DogWise in Mere will be taking on this year's Muddy Dog Challenge; a 5km obstacle course for dog and owner that's unique in the UK, raising money in support of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

Macmillan Cancer Support is launching a new volunteer service in our area
Local residents are invited to attend a reception marking the launch of a new volunteer service, "Macmillan Help About Wincanton", which will offer practical help to cancer patients and their families in Wincanton, Bruton, Castle Cary, Shepton Mallet and the surrounding areas, and start later in the summer.
Vans damaged in Wincanton, reward offered for information
Avon and Somerset Constabulary is appealing for information from the public in relation to damage caused to several vehicles parked on Carrington Way, Wincanton overnight between the 8th and 9th of March.

We are being asked to vote for the next county councillors to represent our area at Somerset County Council. Voting for the Wincanton and Bruton candidates will take place at Wincanton Memorial Hall between 7:00am and 10:00pm.

Show up at Cale Park with a quid this Thursday at 6:30pm to hit a ball with a stick and run around in circles and stuff. All young people are welcome (under 10s to be accompanied by an adult) and there'll be free refreshments. But this is just the start of something long overdue in Wincanton.
Support C.A.T.C.H. at their jumble sale this Saturday
The river people are holding a jumble sale this Saturday, 29th April, to raise money to fund the work they're doing to improve the River Cale. Their previous sales have been so successful that for the second year running it'll be held in Wincanton Memorial Hall, the only venue with enough room for all the stuff and things.
