Kimbers' Farm and Shop
The Kimber family have farmed in Charlton Musgrove for over 300 years, the land of the Blackmore Vale is fine grass growing type and produces fantastic meat and milk, and indeed award winning cheeses are made from milk produced in the vale.
We have a pedigree dairy herd if British Friesians and Dairy Shorthorns, producing top quality rich creamy milk which is bought by Wyke Farms for cheese making and Somerset Dairies for bottling and making cream.
We have Gloucester Old Spot pigs for our pork, sausages dry cure bacon and gammons. Rose’ Welfare Friendly Veal (as featured on River Cottage with Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall).
We grow Aberdeen Angus beef which is born here at the farm and when the time comes is slaughtered locally, hung for three weeks and butchered by our own professional butcher.
Lamb, hogget and mutton, from our family and local farmers who graze our land during winter.
We grow Free Range Bronze, Norfolk Black and Traditional White Turkeys and Free Range Geese.
Our free range Aylesbury ducks and table chicken are grown for us on a farm on the Somerset Levels to our agreed specification.
All our animals are slaughtered in low throughput slaughter houses, minimising travel time and stress. The poultry are killed on the farm in licensed premised to the highest standard.
We have a large family who all play their part in the farm business to a lesser or greater degree.
We opened our farm shop in 2006 and this year was awarded Best Farm Shop in Somerset in the Taste of Somerset awards 2009.
We hold a special event here on the farm on 22nd and 23rd December, when Christmas orders are collected, mulled cider is served and a Farmers Market type extension is added to our well stocked farm shop.
Do look at our website, http://www.kimbersfarmshop.co.uk/ and download our Christmas order form below. Order early to avoid disappointment.
