The co-operative, Wincanton

Police are looking for information about an armed robber who entered Wincanton Co-Op at around 9.55pm on Wednesday 12th November, threatening a member of staff with a crowbar, and demanding money and other goods. The man is described as white, wearing a camouflage jacket, jeans and a dark coloured scarf across his face. He was carrying a black rucksack, and believed to speak with an English accent.

The robber entered Co-Op via the passageway from High Street by the side of Papertrees and Café Central. There was one duty manager and two staff on duty. The robber accosted a member of staff near the shop entrance door and made him to go to the counter where he was forced to hand over the money from the till.

Thankfully the day’s takings had already been banked, so the robber was only able to grab the remaining float from the till. Had the incident happened earlier in the day the story could have been different. Police on the scene checked security camera footage in nearby shops to see if the culprit could be seen and identified.

If you can help, report it online and quoting reference 118012/14. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or call the force number 101 and quoting the above reference number.
