Message from the Mayor #8 - Wincanton Post Office

Mayor Sue Shelbourn-Barrow in front of Wincanton Post Office

During the last few months of lockdown, Wincanton’s Post Office has remained a beacon of normality, hugely appreciated by the Town. Housed in a beautiful period building and overlooking the historic Market Place, managed by generations of the same family, it is one of our treasures for sure.

Postmaster Nigel MacCormack describes his lockdown experience

The Post Office has remained open through the whole of lockdown. Customers have been extremely grateful that we have remained open so all online business sales can be processed and customers are able to deposit cash and cheques into their bank accounts. The volume of mail has been extremely high and so everyday has seemed like Christmas!

We would like to thank all our customers who have been so understanding with regard to social distancing, which has meant we have been able to stay healthy and remain open.

We are pleased to say we now have our one-way system in place to enable flow around the shop and to allow customers to safely explore our many gifts, cards and handmade chocolates.

We have, with the patience of customers and the support of staff, delivered a service which will continue responding to changes in national policy on reopening, so keep a watch for when we change our opening times.

Our current opening times

Monday to Friday 9:00am – 1:00pm 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Saturday 9:00am – 12:00pm

Shout-out to Jackie Fitzpatrick

A staff member who normally only works part time has worked every day including Saturday mornings since lockdown, enabling us to keep the business going. We are extremely grateful to her.

My, and our Town’s warmest “thank you” to Nigel and his staff for providing not only the service throughout, but also all the additional items, cards, jewellery, beautiful toiletries, soft toys and of course those lovely chocolates - all of which I am sure made possible a small present or well wishes in a card for those separated from family and friends.

Sue
