Hatha Yoga Lessons at the Balsam Centre

Thursday 2 September 2010, 10:14
By Chris Fenton

From Saturday 4th September, Hatha Yoga Lessons will be a new activity taking place at the Balsam Centre.

YogaThe word Yoga in Sanskrit means "to join".

To join two or more things together movement is fundamental. Hatha Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that brings balance and unity to body and mind, using breath as its constant.

Hatha Yoga was first recorded in India approximately 4500 years ago. Nowadays there are many different types of Yoga that have developed from the original.

The Traditional Yoga Association, with whom Anne (the teacher) trained, was established in 1995 by Swami Ambikinanda to combine teaching traditional methods with today's modern requirements.

Yoga is suitable for people at almost all levels of fitness. Before starting a new class it is advisable to complete a brief medical history form so the teacher may give as safe instruction as possible or tailor the class to suit existing problems. All information is kept in strict confidence.

Wear suitable loose clothing and bring a blanket for the relaxation at the end. We work barefoot.

If you're just starting out, there are a few spare yoga mats (non slip). After a couple of classes you may like to buy your own. Most sports shops have them for around £20.or you can buy them online.

At present there is a class available at The Balsam Centre on Saturday mornings, however if you would be interested in a weekday class please give your details to reception.

The cost is £7 per lesson when a block of 4 is booked or £8 per drop in session.

If you would like more information, please contact the Balsam Centre on 01963 31842.
