New Games Club at the Balsam Centre
The Balsam Centre is getting a new club - a games club. Jean Thorpe approached me at a Loose Ends Cafe to ask about social activities at the centre. Like many people who lose a partner, Jean wanted to find ways to meet new people and socialise. She told me she loved playing games, particularly Scrabble and Upwords - a variation of Scrabble that was totally new to me.
I felt sure that Jean isn't the only one who would enjoy a games club, so Jean has agreed to become our newest volunteer and will be running the club every Wednesday, 10.00am - 12.30pm. We are planning to have Scrabble and Upwords, along with chess, Bridge Mahjong and card games.
Jean admitted that she had never learnt to play Bridge but she would love to learn. Someone had started to teach her when she was 17 but they were rather impatient with her beginner's efforts and she gave up. So I am now on the hunt for someone to teach Bridge - patience and knowledge of Bridge are the only requirements!
If you would like to join the club, or are interested in becoming the Bridge tutor, please call the Balsam Centre, 01963 31842 or email
The club will be in the Veronica Room at the Balsam Centre, and will cost £1.00 a week to join, with tea and coffee available for a small donation.
