Tim is a qualified Homeopath and he and his wife, Charlotte, also host courses, workshops and talks on a wide variety of subjects at The Vale Centre. Tim was previously a solicitor in London and with Gillette for over 30 years.

There is understandably growing concern about anonymous posting [under pseudonyms/aliases].

On that matter specifically I make an important note for all to witness, in the interests of illuminating innocent ignorance where it may 'hide'.

While the Wincanton Window will not remove the functionality that allows it's users to comment anonymously, it should be understood that upon creating a user account you are given the opportunity to provide your real name and a few personal details, NONE of which are revealed or shared in public.

However, a user's real name is not the handle by which they log into the site, nor that by which their comments are labelled. The handle used in these situations is in fact the 'USERNAME' which, in the case of this system, is not an email address but a unique word or phrase provided by the user independently of their real name.

The significance of this is that often people have used usernames in this form for other services known to be over-populated, gmail amd hotmail for example, and benefit from using the same username for other sites and services, just as people often reuse the same password.

And so there is very legitimate grounds for users to operate under extremely odd names, and thus they cannot be identified unless they choose to do so, themselves, by adding such detail to their comments.

So please consider the possiblity that other users may not have realised they are operating anonymously, before you flame them beyond recognition.
