Apple Tree Toys sisters, Caroline & Vicki, with Caroline's son, TomSince the launch of Apple Tree Toys' web site earlier this year, the Wincanton-based company has branched out. Its toys are stocked in local outlets such as Wincanton Wholefoods and Phafals Play Centre and now, in an exciting new development, Apple Tree Toys' range of traditional, Fair Trade and organic toys has been launched at The Udder Farm Shop, East Stour.

The company is a family affair, with sisters Victoria Ruppersbery and Caroline Hunt having put together a variety of favourites suitable for newborn to six plus, and older in the case of some clothing ranges.

The Udder Farm Shop is ideally situated for visitors on the A30 on the outskirts of East Stour. Managing Director Maurice McNulty had been thinking of developing the shop's range for some time when Apple Tree Toys approached him with the idea of stocking their products. With a robust outdoor child's play area and restaurant already on the site, and two thousand visitors, many with children, coming through the doors every week, the addition of toys, home-wares and gifts was a perfect complement to the shop. Negotiations were soon under way to create a merchandise area for Apple Tree Toys.

Launch day was very exciting for Victoria and Caroline – their display was bright and colourful and immediately attracted the attention of a group of mums and toddlers who arrived shortly after the shop opened. The group hailed from Wincanton – the attractions of the play area, coffee and home-made cake makes The Udder Farm Shop a popular destination for many families.

Mums and toddlers in the shopVictoria and Caroline are keen to acknowledge and give thanks for the help of all the local businesses that are contributing to their current success. Wincanton Wholefoods and Phafals Play Centre have taken the unconventional step of stocking Apple Tree Toys products and Jeremy Hill Furnishings has been hugely supportive, supplying the company with display units for their stock at The Udder Farm Shop. The sisters feel that Wincanton businesses really do support each other and think the town's traders are especially good at encouraging smaller businesses to get started.

Apple Trees Toys is bringing in more ranges all the time, with children's snow-suits, wellies and waterproofs from Briers (up to around age ten) soon to make their appearance on the shelves, ready for Winter.

Browsing the toy shelvesThe toys available at the shop are ideal for babies, toddlers and older children with soft toys, rag dolls, Eitech metal construction kits and wooden toys amongst the most popular. A wider range of Apple Tree Toys' products can be viewed on their web site (see below for details). A recent addition to the company's products, with more planned, is a lovely range of French floral home-wares and gifts.

With Christmas now on everyone's minds, Apple Tree Toys is planning a festive shopping evening with The Udder Farm Shop, where visitors can browse the superb range of fresh, locally-produced foods from the delicatessen, farm shop and butcher, buy toys and gifts and perhaps even purchase their Christmas trees! The restaurant is fully licensed, with tea, coffee and home-made cakes always available. Details will be published in Wincanton Window's Diary as soon as a date is confirmed.
