Bruton Art Society 59th Exhibition Starts April 6th

By John Baxter

Bruton Art Society's annual exhibition gives everyone the opportunity to come and see and choose from the work of a large number of talented local artists. This year for the first time the exhibition opens in the spring rather than the summer, though the venue is the same, the hall at Bruton School for Girls.

Members of the society work flat out to catalogue the 192 works in this year's exhibition in time for the opening on Friday 6th April.

Cataloguing the exhibition

The exhibition will be open daily from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm (including Saturday and Sunday) and closes on Sunday April 15th. Again the Society is very grateful to the Headmaster of Bruton School for Girls, Mr John Burrough, for permission to use the School Hall which really does lend itself to the occasion.

In addition to the framed works on display there is also a large number of mounted drawings, paintings and prints for sale, together with a very varied selection of original cards made by members.

Members of the Society are all able to enter up to five works for exhibition, but that does not mean their work will be selected. Each year an independent Hanging Committee is appointed to make that choice and the paintings hung are those they judge have that hard to define attribute, real quality.

Come along and see what you think of the work on show. Here are two pictures as a taster.
