Business Hub: Hot Desking at Churchfields

A new rent-a-desk project for people wanting flexible office accommodation – or business people on the move who need a wifi “pit stop” – is being launched in Wincanton is being launched by South Somerset District Council (SSDC).

A “hot desk” in the Lime Room at the council’s Churchfield offices, off Church Street, could be the answer for anyone with a small home-based business or those who have the occasional need for an office but don’t want to be tied by a lease.

If you work from home, the Lime Room provides two desk spaces to enable you to work without the distraction of home life. Bring your laptop, mobile phone and just get going. Printer and wifi access connection (typical speeds: download 16.08mbps, Upload 11.16mbps) is included within the flexible hourly bookings.

For regional staff of companies that are on the road and are working from their car as they travel around the south-west, this will also be a convenient “pit stop” just off the A303.

“We are keen to support businesses locally and we hear that more and more home based businesses are seeking flexible office accommodation, from which to build their business, without being tied into long leases.

“This initiative is being implemented on an experimental basis. It is a win-win situation – an opportunity to test demand using vacant office space at the council offices in Churchfield, and if successful, it may provide the basis from which to develop a work hub locally. A photocopier and meeting rooms are also available for use although separate charges will be applied.
