Cakes by Design - currently on display at Papertrees
Anyone who has been into Papertrees on the High Street in the past week will have noticed a spectacular pair of cakes – one that looks like a particularly fine geological sample and the other a mysterious tree from a fairy story.
They are the work of Sarah Romain, whose father Adrian owns Papertrees. Sarah is a self-taught cake artist who is making a name for herself with her stunning and original creations.
The two cakes at Papertrees (you can see them in the window as you walk through to the Co-op) are a wedding cake, and the amazing construction for which she has won a prize in an international competition.
Sarah took bronze in the London Cake International 2017 competition (in the “L: Wedding Cake of Three or More Tiers” category) with the fairytale tree. There is also a feature on her cakes in Perfect Wedding magazine.
She has been making her cakes for about two years. As well as wedding cakes and competition creations, she also makes cupcakes, novelty cakes and more. For more information visit her Facebook page Sarahs Cakes By Design (a website is coming soon – www.sarahscakesbydesign.com).
