Castle Cary Litter Bin Set Ablaze
Avon and Somerset Constabulary are appealing for information from the public to help identify the person(s) responsible for setting alight a litter bin in Castle Cary. Between 9.00pm and 10.00pm on the evening of Tuesday 28th February a litter bin located on the Donald Pither Memorial Field was set alight.
The bin burned with such ferocity that it disintegrated and spread to a nearby fence causing some considerable damage.
Incidents of this nature are gravely concerning as the callous actions of the persons responsible could easily have endangered the safety of the public. I am keen to identify the offender(s) of this incident and would ask anybody with information to please come forward.
Tackling anti-social behaviour is a number one priority; we need to know what is happening in all our neighbourhoods so we can make sure officers are in the right place at the right time to help. Reporting these types of incidents to us is vital. If we have the information we can act early to tackle problems or gather evidence for further action.
Residents should not be expected to suffer in silence; if you see behaviour like this taking place, please get in touch so we can help.
The fire service was required to attend and extinguish the bin. Anybody who witnessed people in the area of the playing field around the time, or who are aware of the culprits, are asked to make contact with the force's non-emergency enquiry centre on '101'. Alternatively the public can help fight crime anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers.
Call anonymously with information about crime on 0800 555 111, they will never ask for your name or attempt to trace your call.
