Christmas and Crime, PCSO Jenny Maynard Reports
Hello to all, I hope all is well with you over this festive season. I thought I would send out a quick message to give you a brief overview of what has been happening in Wincanton over the last month or so.
As you may be aware Wincanton has recently been subjected to a series of burglaries of homes and business premises over the last few weeks. At this time of year this type of crime seems to peak due to expensive presents being stored at home, and some being stored on show under the Christmas tree. We urge people to keep all valuable presents in a safe place out of view to passers by. Also be aware of keeping windows and doors locked and use security lighting where possible.
Going on from that, Wincanton Primary School was broken into over the weekend of 11th - 13th December 09. Large amounts of disco equipment were taken. Anyone with information regarding this crime should contact the Police on 0845 4567000. PC Andrew Brown said, ‘This sort of crime is always upsetting. The PTFA worked very hard to raise the money to buy this equipment and as a result of this burglary the children will miss out.’
The Wincanton Neighbourhood Policing Team took part in a 999 Day in partnership with the Wincanton Fire Fighters on Wednesday 9th December 09. We went door to door raising awareness on Home Security and Fire Safety over Christmas. The day was a great success covering over 100 homes in Wincanton.
On behalf of PC Andrew Brown and myself, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
PCSO Jenny Maynard
