Church Launches Roof Appeal with Knockout Fun and Silly Hats
Sunday 22nd May saw the launch of the Roof Aid appeal in the Memorial Hall, Wincanton, with an It's a Knockout and Silly Hats afternoon. What a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon watching grown ups and children all taking part in silly games and having a lot of fun.
Three teams from different pubs in Wincanton, plus a team of children, started off with games of three-legged races, carrying oranges on table mats between two chairs - such hilarity watching this take place. Teams of five, made up of staff and customers, entered from The Bear, The Nog and The Red Lion. It started really amicably until the competition came in and then the rivalry was great to see, with such good humour amongst them as well. Rev. Nigel Feaver was the organiser and set all the games. Can you imagine patting a balloon along a course using only your head? They did this with such seriousness and then had to carry the balloon back, held between just two straws - no touching allowed!
Then there were skipping and hopping games, followed by a soft ball-in-the-bag and box game. Such thought went into the games and it was such a contest between the competitors - it was great fun and everyone took the games in great spirit.
The final totals made The Red Lion the winners with 22 points, the Nog had 20 points and the Bear 18.
There were also refreshments in the form of homemade cakes, tea, coffee and soft drinks for sale, a raffle and freshly made popcorn and candy floss as well.
A profit of £170 was made during the afternoon which is a good start to the appeal.
