Blood Donor Appointments are Available in January - Book Yours Now
NHS Blood and Transplant is urging blood donors in Wincanton to make and keep appointments to help make sure hospitals have the blood they need to treat patients this winter.
The demand for life saving blood and platelets continues 365 days a year and some people in Wincanton will spend part of their festive season seriously ill and in need of blood transfusions. However, bad weather, busy schedules and seasonal colds and winter bugs mean donations are expected to drop significantly.
Red blood cells only have a shelf life of 35 days, and platelets only have a shelf life of seven days. For this reason, NHS Blood and Transplant wants people to continue donating.
We currently have a blood donation session on Friday 22nd January at the Memorial Hall, Wincanton. Session times are: 13.15-15.30 & 16.30-19.00.
New blood and platelet donors are always welcome. Make and keep your appointment to donate in Wincanton by calling the Donor Line on 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.blood.co.uk.
It is also easy to book through mobile apps for Windows, Android and Apple devices. To download the app, search 'NHSGiveBlood' in the app store.
