This is a photo of a Cow and Gate stone carving which is located above the Myaka Warehouse in the Tythings Commercial Centre, Wincanton. The factory was built in 1928 and opened to Cow and Gate in 1929. They produced milk powders for babies. It was the biggest employer in Wincanton. In 1970 after the amalgamation of Cow & Gate and United Dairies, 'Unigate' was formed. |
This weird and wonderful cabbage starts off in the spring as green. It changes over the summer and the leaves turn blue. By the autumn, the heart becomes purple. When chopped up and put in vinegar it becomes red! |

WOW!! Bristol and Snow, never!! In Febuary, for the first time I had lived there, it was snowing. It was so amazing watching the sparkling crystals in the snow falling down gently and calmly onto the floor. It was just amazing!! It was so brill, but I’ll tell you the best bit, and that was that we didn’t have to go to school that day because we were in such a big school and people came in from everywhere around the place. We were able to have the day of!! HOORAY!! This was because none of the transport could work - like public trains and buses - because they were all closed down because the snow would be too dangerous on the roads. So the minute we heard the good news over the radio and internet, me and my friends were straight out knocking for each over. And after we had all met we were off to the edge of the hills, which we lived on, to take our sledges and to go down the snowy hills on. We had even built our own ramp on the hill which we would go over and jump in the air at great speeds. After we had done that we had the biggest snowball fight against the people who thought they were all hard - when they weren’t. It was such fun, well untill they ran up to us thinking they would kill us, but luckly they didn’t. It was more us killing them!! But WOW the end of the day came quickly, but luckily the snow stayed coming down until the next day!! So once again we had another day off!! |
But then the dreaded day came, the next morning the snow had all gone, it had warmed up and the sun was out. I suppose at least it was sunny, not rainy, but I would have prefered snow - as would anyone. But because the snow had gone and the roads were clear we sadly had to go back to the big, ugly, scary child-eating school. Atleast the snow was something that will stay with me for the rest of my life!! I'm sure it will!! |
