Madagascar - Island of Wonders
Hello! I'm a ruffed lemur from Madagascar. Do join me to find out more about the flora, fauna and people of my country.
Wincanton & Area Parkinson's Group is hosting an illustrated talk on Madagascar - Island of Wonders in the Meeting Room of Wincanton Memorial Hall on Wednesday 16th November 2011 between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
Because the talk at our November meeting may interest the wider community we decided to make it an open one for all to enjoy. We do hope you and your friends will join us.
The cost of the talk is just £2.00 to include refreshments (£1.00 for Parkinson's UK members).
"Money for Madagascar" is a small but very active charity formed in 1986 in response to a sharp increase in poverty in Madagscar. It's early principle that the Malagasy must contribute the ideas and manpower and take charge of their destiny while the charity helps with funds and oversight is still true today.
Since 1986 over two million pounds has been raised to help fund projects tackling food sustainability, health issues, bio-diversity, extreme poverty and emergency relief after natural disasters.
The charity is run by a team of eleven people; ten are unpaid trustees and one a salaried development worker. Every member of the team has either lived and worked in Madagascar or has extensive experience in development work, fundraising or management. The Charity has a "no frills" approach of keeping costs to a minimum. They ensure donor's money is spent safely and effectively by requiring regular reports from their Malagasy partners and by an annual visit to the projects by one of the Trustees. For more information please visit www.moneyformadagascar.org.
We hope you will be able to enjoy this event with us. Donations, if you wish, to Money for Madagascar (Reg. Charity No. 1001420).
