Mayoral Christmas Tea Party for Senior Citizens
Just over one hundred senior members of our community came together at the Memorial Hall on Sunday 5th December to be guests at the Mayor's Senior Citizens Tea Party. Mayor Richard D'Arcy looking splendid in black tie and chain welcomed everyone after an introduction from Deryck Lemon of King Arthur's who as Master of Ceremonies introduced each item.
There was a musical entertainment while over twenty Guides from the Wincanton Guides Group served a variety of savouries followed by cakes, scones, cheese and biscuits which had all been prepared and laid out by a group of ladies in the kitchen. Next came the raffle and Gill D'Arcy entertained with a selection of her poems. Finally there was mince pies and carol singing.
Richard D'Arcy who has been backed by the council in initiating this venture described the aim as being, "to provide an occasion which is enjoyable, entertaining, and will act as a platform for the ensuing festive season", He added that it will give an opportunity for old friends to socialise and will show the council is caring and he thanked the many local businesses that had supported this initiative.
Canon Watson says Grace and the Guides line up to serve the guests.
