Mere Fireworks Festival - Sunday 28th October

Wednesday 17 October 2012, 11:31
By Rachael Hansford

The team of volunteers behind the Mere Fireworks Festival have been hard at work planning another fantastic event, with plenty of indoor and outdoor activities for fun whatever the weather. Inspired by the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics and the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise, this year's Festival takes place from 2.30-6.00pm on Sunday 28th October and has a "Diamonds are Forever" theme.

At just £12 for a family ticket (advance purchase), it once again offers remarkable value. You will be treated to a spectacular finale with fireworks and shooting flames, specially choreographed to music with fire artistes performing on stage, and an LED-lit, remote controlled stunt helicopter flown by one of the UK's leading stunt pilots.

But make sure you allow plenty of time to take advantage of everything else that's on offer first. Throughout the afternoon you can learn didgeridoo with the Wrongo Wongo band in the open mic tent, and have a go at performing if you want to show off your talents.

Hone your football skills at the workshops with Mere Town Football club in the Multi-Use Games Area, scale the climbing wall, ride the miniature steam train or hand-wound merry go round, practice your tightrope walking and circus skills with Firestar Circus, make musical instruments and lanterns in the Craft Hall and listen to fire-lit storytelling in the Walnut Tree Woodland Yurt.

Don't forget to have your face painted, and buy your glow sticks ready for the BIG GLOW parade - our procession of lanterns and illuminated costumes.

Food will be in plentiful supply once you have worked up an appetite. Delicious hot jacket potatoes and pasta with toppings will be available from our very own school kitchen - a healthy option for hungry families.

Holden's Caterers will also be on site, along with Iluminada giant paellas, Mr Chips fish and chip van, the Pavilion tuck shop serving tea, hot chocolate and cake and wonderful coffee courtesy of 918 Coffee.

After the sell-out success of the first Fireworks event last year, numbers have been restricted to 3000 in 2012. Get your tickets early to take advantage of the advance purchase price and make sure you don't miss out! Buy online at www.merefireworksfestival.co.uk, or see the website for outlets.
