Royal School of Needlework trained tutor, Elizabeth Tapper will be teaching an Or Nué hand embroidery class on Saturday 3rd December from 10:00am – 4:00pm at Yarlington House, near Wincanton.

Or Nué is a goldwork technique which uses coloured thread couched over horizontal laid gold threads to create an image or pattern with a glowing gold foundation. It was used extensively during the Opus Anglicanum period in England during the 13th Century to create wonderfully detailed images on ecclesiastical vestments depicting stories from the Bible.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn a traditional hand embroidery technique, one of many under the umbrella of goldwork, in the elegant surroundings of the Georgian Yarlington House in Somerset, the home of the Count & Countess de Salis.

The class costs £50 and only 10 spaces are available to ensure each student gets lots of attention. Kits for the class cost £20 and include all materials required. You will need to bring a ring frame and embroidery scissors. If you prefer not to purchase a kit, a materials requirements list can be provided. Please enquire when booking. Coffee, tea and biscuits are included in the class price.

Other techniques, such as blackwork, stumpwork, silk shading, whitework and crewelwork are offered at different venues. Details can be found on the website below.

For more information or to book, please email or call 07956 536242.
