Screen Bites Food Film Festival Returns to Wincanton
Screen Bites Food Film Festival is back at Wincanton, with a selection of delicious food and the wonderful film Julie and Julia, at King Arthur's School PEC on Tuesday 11th October.
The evening begins at 7.00pm in the main hall with tastings and a chance to buy food and drink from some of the area's finest producers, including Kimber's Farm Shop, Olives Et Al, Divine Wines, Honeybuns, Five Star Chocolate, From Dorset With Love (preserves), Lavender Blue (cakes), Godminster (cheese and vodka), The Lunch Box, Mere Fish Farm, Town Mill Bakery, White Post Gate Honey, Fudges, Dorset Cereals, Purbeck Ice Cream and Hall and Woodhouse (beers).
Inspirational organic gardener Charles Dowding from Shepton Montagu will be there with his wife Suzy, selling copies of his latest book, Winter Salads, which tells you everything you need to know about having a regular supply of fresh interesting leaves through the winter months.
Before the film, there is a short talk - with a chance for some audience members to take part in a blind cheese tasting - by Bob Farrand, of the Guild of Fine Food, which is based in Wincanton. Bob is the founder of the Great Taste Awards and the World Cheese Awards, and the Guild is the sponsor of this Wincanton evening.
Julie and Julia stars Amy Adams as 21st century cook and blogger Julie Powell and Meryl Streep as the food writer Julia Child, who introduced French cuisine to American audiences.
Nora Ephron's 2009 hit weaves the two stories, across four decades. Julie, working on the finances of bereaved families after the September 11th atrocities, gets her own "relaxation" from cooking her way through Julia Child's classic cookbooks, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and blogging her way through the triumphs and disasters. She soon gets a cult following.
Julia's story begins as she and her genial, adoring diplomat husband Paul (Stanley Tucci) arrive in France, where Julia learns about cuisine, collaborates with unreliable others to write her book, and finally brings a new culinary art to America. It's a passionate, hilarious and mouth-watering film, which also stars Jane Lynch (now well known through her diva bitch turn in Glee).
Tickets are £8. Please book so that the food producers know how many people to cater for.
