Strode Music Theatre Society posterCrowning Glory will be a celebration for the Diamond Jubilee year at St. John's Church, Horsington on Saturday May 26th at 7.30 pm. You will receive a good welcome, excellent refreshments and superb singing.

As a company we started 42 years ago as an amateur opera group, Strode Opera, performing light opera in Strode Theatre and giving concerts for charity all over Somerset. We did all sorts, from Gilbert and Sullivan and Offenbach to Carmen, where our lead was Gillian Knight, then a member of English National Opera. We formed the basis of the chorus for a rare performance by professionals and amateurs of Rutland Boughton's "Immortal Hour".

In recent years we have become Strode Music Theatre Society and, as our title suggests, the majority of our repertoire is from opera, musicals and even films. This concert, Crowning Glory, to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, ranges from Vivaldi's Gloria to Hail Holy Queen from the film Sister Act. We don't "import" soloists as we have singers who are capable soloists within the group.

The singing is interspersed with a couple of piano solos from our talented accompanist, and poems or prose from our compéres, hopefully making an evening of varied entertainment for all to enjoy.

Alison Stevens is our Musical Director and Emma Clark our accompanist.
