The Mid-Somerset Decorative and Fine Arts Society (NADFAS)

Friday 21 May 2010, 12:33
By William Salmon

There are NADFAS groups across the country open to all people who are interested in the Arts in the widest sense (painting, pottery, textiles, glass, wood, architecture, heraldry, stained glass, etc). The  June meeting of the Society will take place at 11 a.m. in the Caryford Hall, Castle Cary, BA7 7JJ. The Hall is on Maggs Lane, just east of the A371.

Wilton DiptychOn 22 June we have "The Wilton Diptych: a 600 Year Old Secret Revealed". Painted in the 14th century for an English king, in the flowing lines and delicate motifs of the International style, it hides a secret. Come and hear about this famous local treasure.

The following meeting on 20 July, will take place at the Westex Suite, Bath and West Showground. The subject is "Van Gogh and the colour of feeling."  Juliet Helsewood discusses the artist's use of colour and form to convey emotions rather than painting nature with stereoscopic reality. This lecture follows the immensely successful Van Gogh Exhibition this spring at the Royal Academy. Tea and coffee beforehand.

The society is looking for new members who will be very welcome. Contact Celia Knight on 01963 350 527 for further information.
