The New Health Centre - Public Meeting Friday 12th March 6.30pm
The second of the public information evenings to be held by Wincanton Patient Participation Group has been overtaken by events and now there will be two meetings during the month of March for the benefit of local patients.
The first meeting will be held on Friday 12th March at 6.30pm and will be a presentation of the plans for the new health centre. It will be the first opportunity for patients to be properly informed of the proposals and to give their reactions.
The new health centre has become essential because of the growth of the patient list to date and the population increase that will happen with new developments at each end of the town. It was of course desirable that the practice should remain where it is - in the centre of town – and so expanding the present building, moving to either of two existing buildings nearby, all were investigated but offered a poor compromise. The facilities needed for a modern health centre in an expanding town such as Wincanton needed a large level site - and nothing in the very centre of town exists!
A petition is being circulated for the health centre to stay where it is. The argument is put forward that any move will deter potential shoppers from the town centre and also the very valid point that it will be less accessible for older and less mobile patients. These issues can be addressed without denying the health centre the ability to move forward. This is the opportunity to discuss whilst the building is still on the drawing board.
The following week will offer an evening on the original and important subject of diabetes. This will be held on Tuesday 16th March at 7.00pm with representatives of health and support services available for questions and information.
