The Phantom of the Opera Organ Improvisation with David Briggs
At 7:30pm on Friday 30th April 2010, Gillingham Methodist Church is offering a unique cinema experience with a twist. We are showing one of the greatest silent films ever made, the classic 1925 film version of Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney, together with live, improvised organ accompaniment from international recitalist David Briggs.
Formerly organ scholar of King's College, Cambridge & Organist of Gloucester Cathedral, David Briggs holds a reputation as one of the most fluent and expert improvisers in the world.
This is cinema as it used to be with a musician trying to capture the mood as the silent movie's images flash across the silver screen. This will be a unique event as GMC transforms itself into the world of silent film and, accompanied by our Sweetland organ, will provide an exhilarating evening's entertainment.
Tickets: £12 in advance, £15 on the door. Available from GMC, Superbook in Gillingham High St, Shaftesbury TIC, directly from Gordon Amery on 07817 379006 or online at www.wegottickets.com/event/69241.
Please support this unique event in North Dorset and bring as many friends and family as you can! You could even wear fancy dress! I strongly recommend that you purchase your tickets in advance - David Briggs has been improvising to 'Phantom' to sell-out audiences at many cathedrals in the UK. This is one not to be missed!
