Town Council Surgeries & Election Hustings in Wincanton
Saturday Surgeries, started by Wincanton Town Council back in the autumn of 2014 have been a great success, with around 100 people attending the weekly surgeries to share their views and concerns. In a town the size of Wincanton this is actually a very good response.
On the back of this success the Surgeries started the 2015 season on Saturday 7th February, and will continue throughout the year on the first Saturday of each month. They will be held in the Town Hall in Market Place between 10.00am and 12.00 noon.
This is an excellent opportunity to get to know your elected councillors, and let them know what you think, what you like about the town, and what you think can be done to make Wincanton an even better place to live. Sadly councillors can’t read minds, so they have to rely on the good old fashioned method of chatting to residents.
Make a point of dropping in and chatting with them, especially as they are now working hard to create the new Wincanton Neighbourhood Plan that will dictate how the town grows and develops between now and 2028. They need to know what you think.
Town & District Council Elections Hustings – Friday 17th April
In case you didn’t know there is a National Election on 7th May 2015. However, on this same Election Day there will also be elections at District and Town Council level, giving you the opportunity to elect the councillors you want to represent you for the next few years. So the monthly Surgeries are even more important, allowing you to get to know the people that currently serve you. Then you can decide whether to vote them back into office, or vote for new councillors to represent you.
Wincanton Businesses Together is arranging an Election Husting on Friday 17th April, to be held in The Memorial Hall. This will be one of the last opportunities to question candidates before the Election Day itself. So between now and then make sure that you take advantage of the Surgeries and the Husting.
