Volunteers Needed for Stroke Project - You Can Make a Difference
Do you have spare time? Are you a good communicator? Are you patient, reliable and caring? Can you travel independently?
If the answers to these questions are yes, you could help Somerset Partnership NHS Trust to enrich the lives of stroke patients by helping them overcome problems with conversation and restore their self confidence. Many people are isolated and cut-off when their communication skills are impaired after their stroke and we aim to provide them with long-term support.
I currently have a couple of patients in the Wincanton/Castle Cary area that could benefit from volunteer visits, but do not have volunteers available nearby.
Volunteers to the scheme need to commit to the project for at least six months, and will visit patients in their own homes for one hour a week.
To find out more and see if you have the qualities we need to help stroke patients, contact Holly Mitchell (01935 846406), LEAP Scheme Coordinator.
Successful volunteers will receive training and support from members of the NHS Somerset's Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team.
