Wincanton Choral Society Performs Rossini on Sunday 18th May
The Wincanton Choral Society Spring Concert will take place in the Wincanton Sports Centre on Sunday 18th May 2014 at 7.30pm. The 100-strong choir and soloists will sing La Petite Messe Solennelle (Little Solemn Mass) by Rossini. The work will be accompanied by two pianos and a harmonium.
Rossini's small solemn mass was written in 1863 and was the last of his "Péchés de vieillesse" - his sins of old age. It's a solemn, serious religious work, yet the mass also has the most delightful touches from a man who remained a theatrical composer to the end.
The Society's Musical Director, Simon Twiselton, has taken great pains to select two pianos and a harmonium with the closest sound to the instruments used in the work's original and most celebrated performances. Anita d'Attellis and Jacquelyn Bevan play the pianos, and seated at the harmonium is James Smith; together they provide a feisty, characterful accompaniment.
The experienced soloists for this performance are Anna Gregory, Soprano, Arabella Heaton, Alto, Paul Bedley, Tenor and Philip Smith, Bass.
Tickets will be available at the door on the night at £15.00 or from www.netaticket.com or by telephone (01749 813899).
