The Invisible Woman Showing at Wincanton Film Society on 18th February
On Wednesday 18th February the Wincanton Film Society season continues with a screening of “The Invisible Woman”, starring Ralph Fiennes, Felicity Jones and Kristin Scott Thomas.
Directed by Ralph Fiennes, this is the story of Charles Dickens at the height of his career. Set in the 1850s, Dickens becomes attracted to Ellen Ternan, a not very talented actress. Charles has become bored of his intellectually unstimulating wife, so he takes Ellen as his mistress, with the cooperation of her mother.
The film is a roller coaster of emotions, with Dickens enjoying a friendship with benefits, but Ellen is struggling to cope with the emotional cruelty doled out by Dickens, who is determined to keep this relationship secret. Ellen needs to take stock of her own position in life and eventually she has to decide if the price she is paying is not just bearable, but worth the return of investment.
The screening takes place, as usual, at King Arthur’s Community School PEC, starting at 7.30pm.
