Wincanton Choral Society Concert - Handel’s ‘Messiah’ on 14th December
The Wincanton Choral Society will perform Handel’s great Oratorio, ‘Messiah’ at 7.30pm on Sunday 14th December at the Leisure Centre in Wincanton.
With wonderful soloists, Katharine Hawnt (soprano), Andrew Stewart (countertenor), Kieran White (tenor) and Tom Hunt (bass), the Choir is joined by an orchestra of top musicians conducted by Simon Twiselton.
The performance, which follows the same pattern of its very first hearing in Dublin in April 1742, contains unusual versions of some of the famous solo numbers as well as the well-known choruses that thrill the ear and excite both the emotion and the intellect. Handel gave all the proceeds of that first performance to different Irish charities, something of which the Messiah would surely have approved.
Come and hear this most enduring of choral works on the 14th December.
Tickets for the performance are available from 01749 813899 or from the Box Office: www.netaticket.co.uk. Prices are £13.50 in advance if bought by 8th December, £15.00 on the door with under 18s at £6.50 at any time.
