On Tuesday 24th September Wincanton Film Society's new 2013-14 season kicks off with a big bang. There is a measure of excitement in the air. What's the reason?

  • It's our first screening of the new season.
  • We celebrate our first ten years. Now that one crept up on us. This season will see us complete our tenth year of service to the community. Hard work and determination have seen us through. Wouldn't it be nice to celebrate our coming of age at 21?
  • Our season opener is our first Bond movie. We have shown a huge variety of movies over the last nine seasons, including some pretty obscure but interesting offerings, and quite a number of block-busters. But in all that time we have never shown a Bond film. So this is a nice first.

Skyfall will have us all on the edge of our seats as Bond is asked once again to save the world. Come and join us for this season starter. But Skyfall is just the start. For this season's choice we asked our members and friends to tell us what they wanted. So this selection is what they asked for. Here's the schedule.

Great to see Skyfall again as part of an audience and on a big screen. The best joke being James saying, "I'm from Health and Safety" as he climbs into a moving tube train. The whole film is stylish and witty with enough emotion explored between the aging James and the aged M to have real pathos. The wonderful chases and the beautifully choreographed violence never become so unbelievable that one cannot maintain the necessary suspension of disbelief to still find them exciting - something Hollywood so often forgets when it goes over the top with special effects, so role on Director Sam Mendes to do the next one.
What's more come and join us. As you can see the committee really has put together a super programme for the coming year and I for one am really looking forward to seeing Lincoln for the second time. Another great film.
