Wincanton Street Market Starts its 2014 Season Sunday 18th May
In 2013 the Wincanton Town team group planned and executed three trial Sunday Markets that took place in September, October and November. The results showed clearly that a market in Wincanton would be well supported by both residents and visitors.
This market re-establishes Wincanton's credentials as a Market Town. There are many towns running markets, but Wincanton's market was set up under a Royal Charter in the reign of Queen Anne.
After a winter break allowing the team to regroup and prepare, they are now ready to launch the official monthly market to run on the third Sunday of each month between May and November 2014.
The first market will be on Sunday 18th May and the High Street will be closed between 8.30am and 4.00pm to allow safe erection and dismantling of traders' stalls.
For Sunday the market will include the following traders:
West Hill Alpacas | Knitwear, Fleece, and Wool |
The Jam Shed | Jam and Chutney |
The Unusual Pork Pie Company | Unusual Pork Pies |
Bonzo Bites | Dog Treats |
Saskia Flowers Essences | Flowers, Essences, and Sprays |
Taylor's Traditional Bakers | Bakery Goods |
RB Fudge | Fudge |
DJ Downs | Ladies Clothes and Scarfs |
Great Baskets | Baskets and Carvings |
Forever Fashion | Vintage Fashion |
Wincanton Primary PTFA | Jumble |
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary School | School Stuff |
Askew Art | Paintings |
Sidetract | Silk and Linen Tunics and Dresses |
Red Chilli Company | Chilli Jams |

Monkey Nuts | Sock Monkeys |
Your Finishing Touch | Scarfs, Hats and Beach Wear |
Gould Cheddar | Cheese |
Quixotica | Spanish Food |
Ralph Meadows | Wild Flower Seeds |

That's the business end of the market. Joint Co-ordinator Suzy Turner-Wilcockson confirmed that there will also be entertainment in the form of:
A Street organ
Punch and Judy
Dancing with Wincanton Primary and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary Schools.
So there's something for everyone, and for all ages at this first market. Suzy said that if there is anyone out there who still wants to book a stall, to contact her as soon as possible. The indications are that this market is going to grow and gain a much wider appeal. So if you are a home-based crafts business, or if you would like to try a market as an extra outlet for your shop, please contact:
