Work has begun on Wincanton's new skate park!
Wincanton's beloved skate park was demolished on Monday 10th February, in preparation for the construction of a brand new one! This is another big step in the on-going programme of improvements to the Cale Park area.
Poole-based Maverick Industries, considered the industry leader in the building of concrete skate park facilities, has been contracted by Wincanton Town Council to replace the ageing steel structure with a modern, concrete facility with an improved design.
The work is expected to the take 10-12 weeks, during which the area will be inaccessible to the public. Upon completion, hopefully sometime in May, Maverick will work with the Town Council to organise a significant launch event to introduce the Town to the fabulous new facility.
The total cost of the new skate park will be £160,000, of which at least £85,750 has been funded by external benefactors. Contributions include £50,000 from the Viridor Environmental Credits Scheme, £20,000 from Sport England, £12,500 from South Somerset District Council, £3000 from Avon and Somerset Police and £250 from the Friends of Wincanton Community Hospital. The remainder will be paid for by Wincanton Town Council with a government works loan, which is a low-interest rate loan repayable over 25 years.
