100 Mile Sponsored Charity Cycle Ride UPDATED
Steven D'Arcy who attended Wincanton County Primary School, King Arthur's Secondary School and Yeovil College is to undertake the challenge of a sponsored cycle ride on Sunday 4th August 2013 in aid of his chosen charity, Mind. The ride will start in the new Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park then follow a 100 mile route through the capital and into Surrey and finishing in the Mall.
Steven now lives in Henley in Arden where his work has taken him. He is a keen cyclist and has been training at every opportunity, but by his own admission would like to loose a little more weight before the event.
Recently he went to France to see stage 18 of the Tour de France at Alpe d'Huez. Whilst he was there he undertook another challenge to cycle the climb of Alpe d'Huez and negotiate its 21 hair-pin bends. Although he had to stop several times for a breather he completed the entire route in somewhat hot conditions.
His work colleagues presented yet another challenge, to have his legs waxed. I guess they felt it might help him go a little faster! With a proviso that additional sponsor money must be forthcoming, Steve accepted.
If anyone would like to sponsor Steve this can be done by logging on to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/StevenDArcy.
UPDATE
Steve completed the 100 mile ride on Sunday 4th August. He supplied the following picture as proof! There's still time to sponsor Steve for his efforts and support his cause.
Good work, Steve.
