Baby Singing & Signing Classes to Start in Wincanton

By Laura Goodwin

Baby signs are a great means of communication for babies, enabling them to speak to you before they have learnt the fine art of talking. Signs can greatly reduce the frustration of not knowing what your little one is trying to tell you; for example, he may say "boo mummy, boo", but when he uses the sign for food, you can give him the snack he wants rather than a game of peek-a-boo!

Laura with her Son and NieceI started signing with my son Alexander when he was 5 months old, he is now nearly 3! How time flies. More recently I have been signing with my niece Annabel who is 14 months, and who is now busy signing away, and my daughter who will soon be 6 months – I can't wait to see what her first sign will be... Now I have moved back to Wincanton, the town in which I grew up, I have decided to run my own classes and be able to pass on the fun of singing and signing.

TinyTalk is the UK's biggest and best signing organisation, our classes consist of 30 minutes singing popular nursery rhymes and action songs with appropriate signs followed by 30 minutes social time. This is when the babies can interact and play with toys whilst the adults enjoy a well-earned drink and chocolate biscuit (or two!). At TinyTalk we believe that baby signing can play a significant role in helping early communication and language development. The importance of saying the word at the same time as making the sign is always emphasised. Lots of other language development tips are taught in the classes, such as remembering to face the child every time a sign is used, the importance of repetition and to always keep it relaxed and fun! TinyTalk baby signing classes are suitable for babies, from birth until about the age of 2 years when your baby starts to talk fluently.
