A Wincanton volunteer fundraiser is organising a "Bags, Belts & Beads" sale in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Pat Cullen with a load of bags

Pat Cullen, of North St is holding the sale in the Sun Lounge of the Memorial Hall, Wincanton on Friday 9th November from 9.30 am to 12.00 pm.

This is the second sale that Pat has organised. The first one two years ago raised over £1,000 for the Wincanton branch of Cancer Research UK, where Pat is the secretary.

Pat said:

"My husband and I have been battling with my husband's cancer for eight years and the battle still continues. Recently my mother was diagnosed with cancer and is doing well fighting the fight. It is exhausting but we are slowly winning with the help of new treatments.

"It is vital that we raise more money to fund research which will save or prolong lives. It is not always possible to help a cancer sufferer but if I can help in my small way by raising funds, it makes me feel better too.

"We need good quality bags, belts and necklaces to sell at the sale and, of course, we want lots of people to come and buy new treats for themselves and for their family and friends. The sale is a great way to find good quality gifts and enjoy a cup of coffee and a cup cake with a friend."

Ros Fry, Cancer Research UK's area volunteer manager said:

"We are absolutely delighted that Pat has decided to organise this sale at a time when she has a great deal of demands on her time and energy. The Wincanton group are a great group of fundraisers who volunteer money for Cancer Research UK.

"They have being doing lots of preparation and we're sure they're going to have an amazing experience. We can't thank them enough for all their support and want to wish them all the very best on the day.

"Cancer Research UK has made enormous progress in the fight against cancer and continues to do so. However, we have only been able to do this thanks to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and supporters without whom we would not be able to fund our vital research."

Anyone wishing to donate good quality bags or jewellery for the sale can contact Pat on 01963 31144.

The Wincanton group are also looking for new supporters. Please contact Pat or the Area volunteer Manager Ros Fry on 01308 423805.

Good luck Pat & well done for all your efforts. I'm sure that most people who look at the Wincanton Window will have, at sometime in their life, had a family member or friend who has had cancer. Lets hope that the long battle is being won.
