Wincanton's beloved skate park has just been demolished, in preparation for the construction of a brand new one! Things are shaping up for an exciting launch this summer, so watch this space for further information!
Come and see the design for Wincanton's new skate park on Monday 24th June
Wincanton Town Council has arranged a follow-up consultation event in the Town Hall on Monday 24th June to make the design for a replacement skate park available for feedback. A member of the design team will be available to discuss ideas and feedback.
Wincanton's skate park is getting an upgrade!
Wincanton Town Council is in the early stages of replacing the existing skate park at the Recreation Ground. Come to a consultation event in the Town Hall this Wednesday 10th April, to check out the plans and tell them what you think!
Wincanton pupils helped plant new trees at Cale Park
On Thursday 24th January 2019, children from Wincanton Primary School, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School and King Arthur’s School joined Wincanton Town Council to help plant 14 new trees at the Cale Park recreation ground.
Wincanton's Cale Park now has a measured 1km running route
A 1km route has been mapped out which you can walk, jog or run, and it's also suitable for wheelchairs and buggys. There are directional stickers on posts along the route, and a map sign at the start point.
Renovation of the Cale Park shelter has finally begun
Cale Park has seen a lot of action in the last 18 months, including the opening of the new play area and footbridge. But one major eyesore still blotted the landscape. Until now.
Shiny new picnic benches for Cale Park play area
The recently refurbished play area at Cale Park now has two shiny new picnic benches. They are adjacent, and both overlook the sandpit and swings where the littlest people are likely to spend most of their time.
At last, there's waterworks at Cale Park
At long last the public toilet at Cale Park has re-opened, and there's a brand new drinking water fountain in the play area! Since the play area has received a huge upgrade it has been so popular the Town Council has prioritised getting the amenities up and running.
BBC Somerset radio broadcast from Cale Park last Sunday
Last Sunday, 30th April, the BBC Somerset radio programme Clueless with Richard Lewis featured Cale Park, broadcast in part from the old bridge near the car park. Wincanton Town Clerk and members of C.A.T.C.H. were interviewed about the new play park and the work the team does to help the river.
Opening Ceremony for New Cale Park Play Area and Footbridge on 25th August
The new Cale Park play area has been open to the public since the beginning of the month, but the official opening ceremony for both the park and the new footbridge will be on Thursday 25th August, to coincide with the second of two Play Days organised by South Somerset District Council this summer.
Local Businesses Support Cale Park Play Area
The Friends of Cale Park are delighted to have received two donations from local businesses to help towards the final costs for the Play Area project at Cale Park.
Cale Park Play Area is Closing for Refurbishment!
At long last work is about to begin to upgrade the Cale Park play area. Starting with the brand new footbridge and finishing with a full set of all-new play equipment, the exciting work requires the play park and associated car park be temporarily closed to the public.

Come to the David Sharp Centre between 3:00pm and 7:00pm on Friday 8th April to see a public exhibition of the first phase of a major refurbishment of Cale Park, this time focusing on the play equipment and a brand new footbridge!

On Saturday 25th April 2015 volunteers, including members of C.A.T.C.H. working with the Recreation Ground Working Group as well as other members of the public, worked tirelessly to prepare the soil and sow the seed for a new wild flower meadow near the play area.

The ongoing regeneration of the Cale Park area takes another step forward on Sunday 1st March, with a tree planting morning. If you want to help with the planting work, volunteers will be very welcome!
Sowing the Seeds for a Wild Flower Meadow in Cale Park
The CATCH team is eager to move forward and create a wild flower meadow as part of the Town Council’s Cale Park project. Ground preparation work must now get going to make sure the land is ready for sowing next year.
Building Work on The MUGA is Underway! UPDATED
A few months back the Town Council advised that they had successfully obtained all the finance needed to source and install a MUGA. The work has now started and is scheduled for completion before the end of July.
Cale Park Development Gets Underway VIDEO
Wincanton's £500,000 recreation ground redevelopment project, designated 'Cale Park' by locals, has taken its first steps. Town and District Council representatives, with aid from several non-profit organisations including C.A.T.C.H., and groups of local school children have spent a day planting a great many hedge and tree saplings in and around the play area.
