Celebrating Success - King Arthur's Awards Evening

Mr. James Hampton, Principle of Yeovil CollegeMr James Hampton, Principal of Yeovil College, was the guest of honour at King Arthur's Community School's annual Awards Evening.

He joined invited guests for drinks and canapés in the school library prior to the event. Year 10 Catering students prepared a range of tasty bits including choux buns filled with mushroom and pesto, smoked salmon pate on melba toast and smoked fish mini-quiches.

Headteacher, Ms Tamra Bradbury, welcomed an audience of over 200 guests which included former students, parents, staff, members of the governing body and community representatives. She introduced Mr Hampton who gave the keynote address.   He spoke about the opportunities the school had given students and referred to some notable events from their final year including the 50th anniversary celebrations, music concerts, sporting achievements and the Year 11 Prom. He concluded his presentation by saying that they were part of a population of young people who should use their knowledge and skills to change the world.

He presented former students with their GCSE, BTEC and OCR National certificates as well as individual student awards.

The following individuals were the recipients of special awards:

Academic Progress (Male) Toby Creighton
Academic Progress (Male) Samantha Lane
Community Award (given by Strode College) Naomi Walters
Sporting Achievement Award Charlotte Thompson
Badminton Award Charlotte Thompson

Mr Deryck Lemon, Head of Year, thanked his former year group for their support and congratulated them on their success.

At the end of the ceremony, William Blackmore gave a vote of thanks to Mr Hampton and presented him with a gift from the school. It was quite a night for William; he was also presented with an award in his absence at another ceremony that same evening in recognition for his tireless work as a sports leader.
