Construction of the specialist care home overlooking Cale Park has finally resumed
Cornerstone Healthcare Group is delighted to announce the project re-start of its 74-bed, specialist care service in Wincanton, Somerset.
The £10 million development ground to a halt in February this year when the building contractors, Midas Construction Ltd, went into administration. This caused a five-month delay and the project had to go out to the market for re-tender.
Once complete, Cale View will provide care for adults of all ages with challenging behaviours associated with complex neurological conditions and a mental health diagnosis. This 74-bed will add to Cornerstone’s existing services in Hampshire and Surrey.
The Gloucester-based Markey Group successfully tendered for the completion of the project which they restarted at the beginning of August. The project is due for completion in the autumn of 2023.
“The pause of the development was obviously extremely frustrating for us and our client. However, it is great to have the Markey Group onboard. This family owned and run company has a proud 50-year record developing care homes and student accommodation.”
- Ian Holmes, Northstar Projects and Cornerstone’s Project Manager
“Recent studies by Dementia UK identified that 71,000 people in England has a diagnosis of Early Onset Dementia. It is of the utmost importance that Cale View open as soon as possible to provide this much-needed service in the South West region. This area is hugely underserved of the specialist, complex care we provide. We already had contact with representatives from the NHS Care Commissioning Group and we looking forward to working with them.”
- Johann van Zyl, Cornerstone’s Group Chief Executive
“We are pleased to be working with the team at Cornerstone, as we share their passion for providing high quality care to those who need it most, in the latest state of the art facilities.”
- Paul Markey, Markey Group
