Countryside Day - More Than Just Racing At Wincanton
Later this month, Sunday 24th March, sees Wincanton Racecourse celebrate Countryside Day with an action packed day of displays and interactive demonstrations that show the different aspects of glorious countryside pursuits, coupled with competitive racing.
Gates open at 12:30pm and families can enjoy a day's racing with a feast of rural hobbies and free activities from £14.00, with complimentary entry for children 18 and under when accompanied by an adult. The six-race card will also stage Ferret and Terrier Racing between races throughout the afternoon.
The Countryside Arena is active from 1.00pm with the Quack Pack making their racing debut with a hilariously entertaining duck herding demonstrations. Meirion Owen, an accomplished and well-respected sheepdog handler will manage a team of border collies and comical Indian Runner ducks - who run rather than waddle on their short legs - to provide an entertaining, educational and interactive display for race-goers.
There will also be traditional Ferret racing, Gundog & Working Lurcher demonstrations and a Falconry display. For younger race-goers, Wincanton's mascot Winnie the Horse will be out and about for the entire meeting handing out free Wincanton sticker bugs. There is also complimentary face painting and a bouncy castle.
The Courtesy Bus will meet the trains coming into Templecombe at 12.28pm (London Waterloo) and 12.46pm (Exeter St Davids) and will leave the racecourse at 4.35pm.
Advanced tickets are available from £14 at www.wincantonracecourse.co.uk or 08445 793014.
