Daylight Robbery Nets Thieves An Own Goal

Tuesday 24 April 2012, 20:32
By Jason Edwards

In broad daylight on the Tuesday 10th April 2012, thieves made off with a football net belonging to Wincanton Town Football Club (Youth Section) from their home at Wincanton Sports Ground. Unfortunately, the extensive use of CCTV cameras and the presence of numerous dog walkers across the site did not deter these opportunists.

Players and supporters have rallied to show their support and to defy the disrespectful actions of the individuals who have perpetrated this pointless crime against the young people of Wincanton. Despite the theft, the game will go on, so to speak. Therefore, Wincanton will still host the Somerset Girls League U14 Cup Final next Saturday, 21st April.

Club sponsors Crestmoor Construction Services Ltd have offered a substantial financial reward for any information that will lead to the safe return of the Club's property. Contact can be made through the Club via its website.

Hmm, maybe we should commission some stocks to go in the Market Place then if they are caught we can all throw rotten fruit at them.

Good news all round - the net was recovered to the Sports Ground yesterday (29th May 12). The police are aware. A big thank you goes out to all who helped return the property its rightful owner.
