Furnicare furniture service is not coming to Wincanton
[UPDATE: 25/06/2019:] On Friday 17th August 2018 Furnicare officially closed. Their website says they're working on plans for the future and will post news on their Facebook page.
[ORIGINAL:]
Furnicare is part of the South Somerset Association for Voluntary & Community Action (SSVCA) and are based in Yeovil where it has been running since 1991. It collects donated household items such as furniture, electrical goods, bedding, curtains, baby clothing and equipment, books, toys and other useful items. It then checks and repairs them where necessary before selling them on at very reasonable prices to people on low incomes via its depots in Yeovil and Chard. Recently it has started to collect in North Dorset at the request of Dorset County Council.
SSVCA has decided to open a new depot in Wincanton to enable customers living in South East Somerset, North Dorset and South West Wiltshire to have easier access to its wide range of goods without having to travel to Yeovil.
South Somerset District Council have offered some start-up funding, to be matched by SSVCA , so nothing now stands in the way of the new service - apart from premises in the town from which it can operate. Peter Baggs, who manages Furnicare Chard as well as being SSVCA’s Support Officer, is actively looking at various possibilities. We hope to have more news soon.
Meanwhile anyone interested in donating to and/or becoming a customer of Furnicare is very welcome to have a look at www.furnicare.co.uk for more information.
Nigel Engert,
Trustee SSVCA
