Hello, from the triumphant Wincanton Town FC
Hi all, and welcome to what will be the first in a monthly blog from me as Wincanton Town F.C. manager with the Wincanton Window.
We play in the Toolstation Western League, Division One, which is a highly competitive semi-professional league. So far this season we have started well, progressing to the 2nd round qualifying of the FA vase, and as I write this, sit five points off 2nd place in the league.
We have a really talented young squad filled with local players who not only give their all on the pitch each week, but are also more than happy to help out with fundraisers for the club and to promote it in any way they can.
Our home games are usually on a Saturday at 3pm at Wincanton Sports Ground, Moor Lane, and we are at home this Saturday 11th November against Keynsham Town, currently 2nd place in the league.
I write this today on the back of one of the biggest nights in the club's recent history. Our team beat a Yeovil Town 11 last night, 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw after ninety minutes and 3-3 after extra time. This really was a special night for the club, and the town too, and was one of those evenings that unfortunately does not come around too often!
I would like to thank everyone who came to support the team last night as we had a huge crowd and the atmosphere was probably the best of any game I have been involved in. I hope all the supporters who came thoroughly enjoyed their evening as much as all the players, the committee and I did. We would love to see you all back at Moor Lane for some of our league fixtures when possible, although I cannot guarantee the same level of drama as last night!
Thank you for reading and we would love to be able to welcome you to the sports ground for any of our upcoming home games, including this Saturday 11th November!
