Horsington Farmer to Cycle 2016 Miles Across England for Sport Relief
Chris Bailward, 67, a farmer from Horsington, Somerset is departing on a charity cycle ride which takes him back and forth across England on a 2016-mile trek to raise funds for Sport Relief. It will take him the entire month of June.
He proposes to cycle through the 48 Ceremonial County Towns of England, starting from Carlisle on 2nd June and finishing in Truro on the 30th.
Last year he cycled round France, an 1,800 mile trip which took him on a circular route across France via the Alps to the Mediterranean and back up the Canal du Midi and through Normandy.
This year’s trip is longer, but less hilly, despite crossing England’s Pennine spine four times.
On most days Chris will cover between 70 and 80 miles, and he has been training hard to make sure he is fit for the journey.
Chris, a rugby player of some renown in his youth, is receiving support and hospitality from various rugby clubs on his trip. His support of Sport Relief seems entirely appropriate in view of these connections.
Readers can support Chris by donating via his website – www.bailward.co.uk.
The money raised by the public is spent by Comic Relief to help transform the lives of some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people both in the UK and abroad.
