Increased Prize Funds at Wincanton Reaps Rewards
Wincanton Racecourse recently announced its 2013 prize fund has increased by £200,000 to secure an annual fund in excess of £1 million.
On average, Wincanton's prize money per race day for 2013 will be over £60,000 which represents a £10,000 increase per race day on 2012.
Wincanton's remaining January fixture on Thursday 31st January is sure to attract bumper race cards, quality horses and top jockeys given the new investment.
The race card will carry two new races - a two mile, five furlong Handicap Chase with a noteworthy £25,000 price tag plus a two mile, four furlong Handicap Hurdle worth £20,000. The whole card on that day will be worth £78,000 as part of the course's aim to increase the quality of mid-week racing.
The two seasonal highlights at Wincanton - Bathwick Tyres Kingwell Hurdle Day and Badger Ales Chase/totepool Elite Hurdle Day - will retain their current level of prize money of £129,000 and £200,000 respectively.
Steve Parlett, Wincanton's General Manager, said: "Prize money is part of the life blood of the sport and as a Jockey Club Racecourse all Wincanton's profits are reinvested back into the sport."
