Montague Inn Cricket Team's Best Season Ever
The Montague Inn at Shepton Montague is the base for our cricket team. We have just completed the most successful season in the team's history.
We only play "friendly" cricket, but this is against many teams who also have league sides. We scheduled 16 fixtures through the season, managed to play 15 of them, and won 11. We had a very varied bunch of people playing for us, with a wide range of abilities and ages.
This may be just the time for somebody who hasn't played enough cricket this year, or who would simply like to play more next year, to consider letting me know about their interest. The majority of our games are played on a Wednesday night, although a few are on Tuesdays to accommodate other clubs with league fixtures and schedules to fit in.
All our home fixtures are played at Sexey's School in Bruton. There is naturally a small charge (£4) to pay per game, and we also expect players to contribute on a pro rata basis towards overall membership. The club has a low cost base, but the cricket balls aren't cheap, and nor is the club's liability insurance. We also have pitch fees to pay.
If anyone would like to belong to this club and play, even if only very occasionally, please email me (preferably) or phone. Whilst we like to consider ourselves to be a village club, it's never been a problem to have some others from surrounding villages and towns. We aren't going to find 11 cricketers in Shepton Montague!
After we have played home matches we always end up at the Montague Inn, where we are warmly welcomed, often with a small snack meal to replenish depleted reserves.
