Well Done to The Greenway Gang - Our 2010 Quiz Champions!

Well done to The Greenway Gang who became our 2010 quiz team of the year. It was a closely fought battle with Fact Hunt, but in the end The Greenway Gang pipped them to the title by just a few points. Congratulations also go to The Old Farts who won the quiz with an outstanding 67 points.

We've now been holding our charity quiz on the last Thursday of every month since January 2008, and in that time our generous quiz teams have raised in excess of £5,600 for various local and national charities.

Thanks must go to all our quiz-goers who donated both prizes and money, and in particular Nadine, Lyndsey and Dee and Andy of The Old Farts who donated their 1st prize to charity. Thanks guys! We raised a staggering £365 which has been donated to Julia's House, The Dorset Children's Hospice - further details of this wonderful place can be found at www.juliashouse.org.

We must also thank our marvellous quiz master Doug who invests a lot of time and effort into writing the quiz. He keeps us on our toes with a selection of challenging questions and picture rounds (my personal favourite). Thanks also to Steve (our ex bar manager), who despite living way up north these days still organises the music round. Will is in charge of playing the music round and we've not had one without a glitch yet - am I selling it to you? It is fun, I promise!

Ok, here's the deal. The quiz is held on the last Thursday of every month, starting promptly at 7.30pm. It costs £1 per player, with a maximum of five per team. The first prize is £50 off your bar tab for the evening (no cash alternative I'm afraid) and you nominate which charity you would like the entry fees to go to. The second prize is a £20 meal voucher to use here at The Nog Inn. It does get busy so we would recommend booking a table.

So OK, I'm one of the Greenway Gang & I'm going to say how wonderful the Nog Quiz is but book yourself into the next quiz & you will understand that you can't beat a good, local night out. Great beer, outstanding Quiz Master (pure evil, pure genious!), great crowd & hosts who have given Wincanton a pub for the people. Any Quiz will always make some shy away but get some friends together, enter a team & I promise you will have a great night out. Top tips - make sure you try a 'Nog Burger', expect the unexpected & if you don't know where the 'Sulu Islands', are don't worry the question has already gone. Come & take the title from the Greenway Gang, we are all over 40 & haven't won anything since 1976, when Colin won 'second prize in a beauty contest - collect £10')!
