Ian & Jo Wainwrite, The Bear InnFor fourteen years we have owned and run the Bear so we really feel at home here and enjoy being part of this community.

Our old Bear is apparently the oldest Inn in Wincanton. Certainly the present building dates from 1720 when it was a coaching inn and mentioned by James Woodforde in his Diary of a Country Parson when he visited in 1761. Then Wincanton was an important stop on the stage coach route which ran from London to Exeter and further West.

Now we are easy to get to from the A303. Also with our centre of town location and large car park we are very accessible and a good place to stay. This makes us ideal if you wish to break your journey or visit one of this area's many attractions - such as Stourhead, Longleat Safari Park or Wincanton Racecourse, or if you just feel like dropping in for a good meal or a drink. Whatever your choice you can expect a friendly welcome.

A Bear in The Bear InnVisit us and you will find a real log fire, freshly and well prepared food using the finest local and seasonal ingredients, a range of good wines and cask-conditioned real ales. If you need accommodation we have seven rooms and include a full English breakfast in our rates. We also have a large function hall which is available for private parties and special events.

As a real local we enjoy the Lions putting on monthly charity quizzes here and we regularly organise Family Fun afternoons with games, puzzles and competitions on Sundays.

So to contact us for bookings call 01963 32581.
