The Honbu’s Seventh Birthday Celebrations Are a Big Hit
The Honbu, Wincanton Karate Club’s full-time training centre, recently celebrated its seventh birthday and received four new RDX kick bags, courtesy of Steve Lafferty from ALS Technologies.
The club, which celebrates its thirtieth year this year, has seen membership rise considerably since opening its own training facility.
“We would like to say a massive thank you to Steve and ALS Technologies for these new kick bags; the students love them and they will get a lot of use.”
- Instructor Paul Hacker (5th Dan)
“Having known Paul for many years it is a pleasure for ALS to support him both personally, for his contribution to the community he tirelessly supports, and for the individual students he encourages on a daily basis.
“Paul also gives up his own time to promote Karate at all levels throughout the area and it is an honour to support such a pro-active individual.
“ALS wishes both Paul and the Honbu every success for the next seven years! Well done.”
- Steve Lafferty, ALS Technologies
The club has also just bought RDX strike shields which allows the students even more practice of techniques.
“The last seven years have been amazing. Classes are really popular and we have a very healthy junior classe and one of the strongest black belt sections in the West of England.”
- Paul
The club offers many classes during the week, with classes from the age of four and starting at £15 per month. The club is also offering free Karate Taster Sessions to all local schools and colleges.
“We have just started delivering Karate sessions at King Arthurs as part of their PE programme. It’s great to re-establish links with the school and offer something back to the community as it has been an incredible seven years.”
- Paul
